Fakhta
Fakhta is a letter from young Indian women to the world they are growing up in. I was taught to sacrifice, to make space for others, to stay silent; such is the world I grew up in. I wanted to create a safe space for Indian women, and against the red backdrop, under the warm glow of light, I saw raw vulnerability, I saw unbreakable strength. This project has pieces of me woven through it—old pictures of the important women in my life, my Nanu’s ghazal, my Mumma’s wedding photograph, and my Papa’s love for photography - all tie this shoot together. What began as a university project took on a life of its own. It became a voice, not just mine, but one for all those who relate to it.
Fakhta was feautured on Homegrown Magazine with anarticle detailing it’s impact and story.
This project is an intersection of Social advocacy, photography, art direction, set design and storytelling.
